Who Loves the Sun?

65.jpgHas any one kept up with the production of Factory Girl? If not, basically it’s the story of Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol’s Superstars. Rich New York girl, unloved, has issues, does drugs, dies and in the mean time between all that hangs out with a couple of the lasting personalities from the 20th century, ie Warhol (duh) and Bob Dylan ( who supposedly wrote a famous about her ).

Originally Katie Holmes was meant to play the part, but that was vetoed down by her scientologist boyfriend. The role quickly became associated with the likes of Gwen Stefani, but ultimately wound up with Sienna Miller. (Dear Randy, you know we would have watched the Gwen Stefani version with the same glee we saw Blade. Drunk and maniacally laughing.)

Honestly, I love Warhol, the Velvet Underground and even the sweet horror of too much kitsch… But the concoction that is currently called “Factory Girl” scares me quite a bit, especially since it’s written by man named Captain Mauzner, has Guy Pierce as Andy Warhol (WTF), a role (IN GENERAL) for Jimmy Fallon and the Velvet Underground portrayed by members of the band Weezer (SACRILEGE & EEEWWWW). I really cannot believe that Brian Bell from Weezer said, “If your music has steered too far from the aesthetic of the Velvet Underground you have to ask yourself, ‘What the hell am I trying to do?’” How is that for unintentional hipster irony….

If I were Lou Reed, I still would have said, “They’re all a bunch of whores.”

Orlando wants YOU to be a brain surgeon!

folks may remember the hoopla surrounding last year’s finding that a pretty significant positive correlation exists between time spent playing the oh-so-lovable super monkey ball and adeptitude at  the equally adorable discipline of laparoscopic surgery.

as an interesting followup, reuters has posted an article about a festival in orlando that reflects an emerging attitude of actually gunning for gamers as a way of introducing them to possible medical careers.  if anyone out there’s interested in finding a place where the man sees being a gamer as an asset and not a waste of time, orlando may be a good city to start in.

in a very helpful gesture for supplementing our moral vigilance against this potential civiliaztion-ending threat, the fun folks at mc sweeney’s  have posted a helpful guide of marital configurations to be wary of, should what you encounter fall outside the traditional hetero=yes / homo=no dichotomy.

Apparently our generation of creative individuals shouldn’t be completely discouraged… outa the sea of killer yupster robots comes a beacon of EFF glory - Lawrence Lessig droppin knowledge on the fatties in capitol hill… His lectures are concise and pull no punches. I remember listening to a flash lecture back in college all the way through (college, mind you, i used to shit myself bored if i had to sit n listen to anything). As of recent our very own slackeroni collegue -R lent me his book - FREE CULTURE and although being full of lawyer yarble slapping- ultimately, it was a great read. I highly recommend his book for any of you who take to the creative commons and wish to understand whats going on in the grotesquely bastardized copyright/intellectual property nightmare we call our “creative content market”… -al

Nintendo DS once again shows it is king!

The undead rise… an elite group of specially trained agents fly in to deal with the zombie scourge… only to be prodded by a 10 yr old with a stylus! brilliant! the timing is impeccable. I do believe i spent a good hour or two doing the same thing in nintendogs. That, and spinning the dogs by their leashes at high velocities then hurtling them into space (or the wall. or the couch). i love the DS -AL
